Basil (Ocimum basilicum) Essential Oil, is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a sweet, spicey, slightly green, fresh scent with a balsamic woody undertone, part of the mint family. Similar to the Basil leaf the oil is commonly used in culinary practices around the world. It has a very light viscosity and a clear to yellowish color. The aroma is said to be peppery, a spicy aroma with a hint of sweetness as well. It can be a very strong oil so when blending with other oils. According to some, the health benefits of basil essential oil includes the ability to treat nausea, motion sickness, indigestion, constipation, respiratory problems, and diabetes. Basil oil is also a good source of Vitamin A, magnesium, potassium, iron, and calcium.
